Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement

 

The Journal of Research in Language and Translation (JRLT) is strongly committed to upholding the highest ethical standards in academic publishing. We expect all authors, reviewers, and editors involved in the publication process to adhere to these standards to ensure the integrity and credibility of our journal.

- The JRLT website, including the text that it contains, demonstrates high ethical and professional standards.

- The journal title and organizational owner are unique and not ones easily confused with another journal or that might mislead potential authors and readers about the journal’s origin or association with other journals and organizations.

- Information about the ownership and/or management of the JRLT is clearly indicated.

About the Journal

- An ‘Aim & Scope’ statement is included and the readership is defined.

- Copyright and Licensing information is clearly described in guidelines on the website, including authors publishing under a Creative Commons license.

- ‘Indexing and Abstracting’ information is displayed, including ISSNs (separate for print and electronic).

- Editorial board members and governing bodies who are recognized experts in the field are listed. The full names, affiliations, and contact information is included.

JRLT Publications

Both free full-access JRLT issues and separate articles are included.

Submission Guidelines

Detailed information on the peer review process and author’s responsibilities are included. A statement is also made that there are no publication fees.

Reviewer Application

Reviewers are invited to send an email to the JRLT expressing their interest in becoming reviewers.

Authors' Responsibilities:

- Authors should ensure that their submitted manuscripts are original and have not been previously published or under consideration elsewhere. Proper citation and acknowledgment of the work and words of others should be provided.

- Authors must not engage in plagiarism or any other form of academic misconduct. All sources of information and ideas should be appropriately referenced.

- Authors are responsible for ensuring the accuracy and authenticity of the data presented in their manuscripts. Any form of data manipulation or fabrication is strictly prohibited.

- Authors should obtain permission for any copyrighted material used in their manuscripts and provide appropriate acknowledgments.

- Authors should disclose any financial or other conflicts of interest that may influence their research or its interpretation. Funding sources should be acknowledged.

 

Reviewers' Responsibilities & Peer-Review Process:

- Reviewers should evaluate manuscripts objectively, providing constructive and unbiased feedback to improve the quality of the research.

- Reviewers must treat all manuscripts received for review as confidential documents. They should not discuss or share the content of the manuscript with others without the explicit permission of the journal.

- Reviewers should provide an objective and constructive review of the manuscript, and should clearly express their views with supporting arguments.

- Reviewers should declare any conflicts of interest that may compromise their impartiality in reviewing a manuscript. If a potential conflict exists, reviewers should decline to review the manuscript.

- Reviewers should not use or disclose unpublished information, arguments, or interpretations contained in a manuscript under consideration, except with the consent of the author

- All of a journal’s content is subjected to a double blind peer-review process.

- The peer review process, as well as any policies related to the journal’s peer review procedures, are described on the journal’s website.

- Manuscript acceptance or very short peer review times are not guaranteed nor stated on the website.

 

Editors’ Responsibilities:

- Editors have the authority to accept or reject manuscripts based on their academic merit and adherence to the journal's scope. Manuscripts are handled in a fair, unbiased, and transparent manner, without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy of the authors.

- Editors and editorial staff should treat all submitted manuscripts as confidential documents. They should not disclose any information about a manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, and editorial board members.

- Editors should disclose any conflicts of interest and recuse themselves from handling manuscripts in which they have a personal or financial interest.

- Editors should make publication decisions based on the manuscript's originality, significance, clarity, and adherence to ethical guidelines, without any form of discrimination.

- Publishers and editors should take reasonable steps to identify and prevent the publication of papers where research misconduct has occurred, including but not limited to plagiarism, citation manipulation, and data falsification/fabrication, among others.

- In the event that a journal’s publisher or editors are made aware of any allegation of research misconduct relating to a published article in their journal, the publisher or editor shall follow COPE’s guidelines (or equivalent) in dealing with allegations.

 

This Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement is based on the guidelines from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). The Editorial Board of JRLT monitors and upholds these publishing ethics principles. Violating the Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement can have serious consequences for authors, editors, and publishers. As such, it is important for all parties involved in the publication process to adhere to this statement to promote the highest standards of academic integrity and contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the field of language and translation research.
